RAD meaning

rad (ræd )

Adjective: "Rad" means very good, cool, or exciting.

rad (ræd )

Acronyms: "R.A.D". – Reflection, Action, and Development

RAD Global – Why “Global”?

RAD stands for Reflection, Action, and Development, a practical spiritual framework. When we add the word “Global,” we affirm that this model is:

  • Universally applicable: Reflection, action, and development are core dynamics of Christian mission in every culture and context.
  • Cross-cultural and inclusive: Whether you're serving in prisons in USA, Argentina, or anywhere in the world, the RAD process empowers pastoral agents to read the signs of the times, act with compassion, and grow in discipleship.
  • Part of the Church’s universal mission is to connect local efforts, such as prison ministry, with the global vision of the Catholic Church—to proclaim liberation through the Word and serve human dignity everywhere.

RAD NETWORK – Why “Network”?

The word “Network” emphasizes that RAD — Reflection, Action, and Development — is not just a personal journey, but a shared mission. Here’s why:

  • Connection:  fosters meaningful connection by bringing together lay ministers, chaplains, justice officials, and professionals across disciplines—committed to reflecting, acting, and growing together in service to persons in custody, and promoting healing, dignity, and justice.
  • Collaboration: The RAD Network fosters mutual support, shared resources, formation tools, and experiences to help each member offer a more compassionate and effective ministry.
  • Community: It forms a living community of practice, where each person contributes to the spiritual and pastoral development of others—locally and globally.
  • Mission alignment: Like the early Church, it creates a web of relationships rooted in the Gospel, responding to the needs of today’s prison reality with unity and purpose.

Our Vision

The RAD Global Network is not just a name—it’s a Spirit-led movement. Rooted in the Word and driven by mission, it unites hearts across borders to bring hope, healing, and freedom wherever Christ is needed most. Together, we reflect, act, and grow as one body, lighting up even the darkest corners of our society with the liberating power of the Gospel

to the places and people most forgotten, wounded, or excluded—where suffering, injustice, and silence often go unnoticed. In the context of the RAD Global Network, these “darkest corners” include:

  • Prisons and detention centers, where many live in isolation, guilt, or despair, often cut off from hope or faith.
  • Hearts burdened by trauma, addiction, poverty, or violence, especially when society has labeled them as lost or unworthy.
  • Communities on the margins, where the light of the Gospel and the warmth of human dignity still struggle to shine.

But it is precisely in these hidden places where Christ sends us. As followers of the Risen Lord, we are called to bring His light to the darkest corners—reminding every person that they are loved, seen, and never beyond redemption.

Our Mission

Our mission is to reduce hyper-incarceration by standing at the forefront of theological, sociological, and political thought—always in service of human flourishing. Rooted in the Gospel and guided by the Church’s teachings, we affirm the solemn inherent dignity of every person and their God-given capacity to grow and thrive as members of a community. We believe in an interdependent humanity, bound together by a common destiny (EFH.8), where justice is restorative, not punitive; hopeful, not despairing.

Our Approach

We draw on the deep and enduring wisdom of Catholic Social Teaching (CST)—a tradition shaped by centuries of theological reflection on the human person, our relationships in community, and our shared vocation to human flourishing.

Rooted in this vision, we seek to help build a society truly worthy of the dignity of every person—a civilization permeated by love (CSD.580)— by placing the Gospel at the heart of every relationship, every structure, and every act of justice.
